Inside the complex you will find multiple cannons and army tanks on display, as well as statues of the heroes of Dominican independence and other important historical figures. The fortress served as a prison in later years. In 2005, a small museum opened its doors, displaying numerous Taino artifacts and cultural objects, as well as paintings, swords of the period and photographs of the U.S. occupation. It was built in the early 19th century and was a key defense post during the Restoration War.
